: Biggest-grossing black and white film of all time? Are you insane? What the hell happened to Schindler's List in your mind?

$96 million in the US, $317 million worldwide. I'd sure like to see Kevin pull in numbers like that, but he isn't going to do it by making black and white sequels to cult hits.

Let's be honest, he isn't going to do that by making the kinds of movies we all love him for.

And, yes, even for a very popular director, black & white (while being a beautiful medium cinematically) is going to hurt your box office. I'd say unless it's some amazing exception like SCHINDLER'S LIST, RAGING BULL or MANHATTAN (I can't get the box office figures on the latter two, but I believe they made an exceptional amount for black & white films), you're capping your box office potential at about $10 million... and that's if you've made something very good that can draw the word of mouth.

: And to make Clerks 2 b&w with no casting changes would be to make the same film. New ideas would be needed, new situations, new people. Put it all in the same place and people would quickly become bored with the familiarity of it all.

Including me. I'm not saying that I'm too dumb or impatient to deal with that kind of film, but let's be honest. Been there, done that.

: By all means keep some characters, otherwise there would be no continuity, but to have nothing new smacks of a lack of originality. Ring the changes, I say!

Exactly!
