: The plenary indulgence was their way of getting into heaven without asking for forgiveness for something they still felt was not wrong. In my humble opinion, that is the answer to the human/confession debate.
I think this is a damn good point. It makes sense and it fits the characters, BUT there was no dialogue in the flick that supports it. Bartelby and Loki never said "Fuck us asking for forgiveness! Let's stick it to God and get to Heaven even if he doesn't want us there."
My reading of Bartelby and Loki was that they did feel wronged by God, but they were sick of being banished to Earth and sick of being out of his/her presence. If given the chance, I truly believe the two of them would have leaped at the chance if God had offered them the option of "saying your sorry and everything will be alright."
: As for the Indians comment, I agree. There was nothing in the film discussing the appearance of the angels, but I would think they would appear to humans in any form which would allow them to blend in.
I'm still hazy on the whole "angels blending in" thing. What do they changes appearance every twenty years to fit in with their times? Does their skin-color and facial features change with every environment they enter? Chameleon angels?? I don't buy it.
