Thanks so much... I have a pretty good feeling you two are right, too. But I think they should have said it too, as in "sorry my ass!" You're right... I think Loke and Bartelby thought they were genuinely right in their decision to go against god's wishes... and felt like they were the ones wronged, not God. In any case, I can sleep peacefully now that I have an answer! :) Thanks!
