First I would like to thank you both for this crash-course in Internet Theology. Very interesting.
But about the above: When in the history of man has god ever been merciful? Seriously. It seems to me that at best he stands aloof from such things as the actions of mortals; And at worst he enjoys the suffering of his 'children', (as you'll note that at somepoint in history every race has been subjugated).
And if he's so damned merciful, why do his most ardent supporters refer to themselves as 'god-fearing'?
