They seemed to be playing up the pathetic nature of his home-dwelling and, if many of the folks I know are any indication, living at home at 19-21 is far from unheard of. Plus I don't think they'd give the Tonight Show gig to someone that young (although I'd tend to doubt they'd award it to some slacker nobody cracking jokes in a Jersey mall, regardless of his age).
