: I think the only thing wrong with Carrey playing Kaufman is that he's a more famous face than the person he's impersonating, so it's hard for the audience to see anyone else but Ace Ventura.
I think this was a HUGE problem
That said, I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off as sweetly as Mr. Carrey.
Nicolas Cage
: And was it me or did it bother anyone else that Carrey and Pig Vomit (the dude from PRIVATE PARTS who played Bob Zmuda in MOON) were so physically different from each other, yet they could "seamlessly" interchange themselves as the same character? At least the real Kaufman and Zmuda had the same body type. But maybe that's nit-picking.
Man...I HATED the flick and this didn't bother me.......Bob Zmuda(Paul Giammatti......who was a shining light...but he ALWAYS is) was seen in the film in full Clifton regalia...and it worked for me
: It was an extremely entertaining movie that actually gave some insight into the guy's head.
I didn't get insight at all. Except that he was an overexcitable, insecure freak. which he wasn't
He didn't know what was funny to people, he just knew what made HIM laugh.
See..this is where you are wrong....and where the movie fails......he DID know what made people laugh.....He just didn't want to give it to them.......He made them work....Most people didn't get it...and those who did.......we're treated to some of the most entertaining spectacles in comedy history. He was far more intelligent than just that goofy child with the impish grin.
Speaking as someone who loves him the comedy, it was fun to watch a guy make himself laugh (and sometime nobody else) while the whole world watched, confused as Denise Richards when she hit upon a really big word in the TAIL LIGHTS FADE script.
Ummmmm...I can only assume that this poorly written pargraph was suppoused to inject some insight into an already belaboured point AND "good-naturedly" take a stab at me......Which I deserve....for so FOOLISHLY presenting a critique of a film.......so close to mine being so harshly critiqued
But kudos Brian.......Hahahmmmmmmmm.
: Malcolm, I usually totally agree with your movie reviews ("I don't care what the critics say, WILD WILD WEST kicked MUCH MUCH ASS, eh!") but I gotta veer off from your opinion here. If you want the real Kaufman, you can still go rent his shite (or watch it on TV, God knows it's been playing a bit too much lately on cable, and I've seen all of it, sadly). And I don't think that anyone that watched the movie would call Carrey's performance "cuddly". 'Cept for you, and I'm hoping cuddly has an altogether different definition in Canada.
: "Everybody involved in this film should be ashamed."
: Now you're just being silly. But still so very sexy.
I only feel this way because of the players involved...Hell..I even loved Cable Guy, Valmont and Problem Child
But Jim, Milos and Scott&Larry only touched the surface of a truly complex and great individual.
Me....Hell, I bombed making a "whacky" road race pic.
I'll sleep soundly
