I'm probably not a "serious" student of film noir, but as someone who likes to think he's seen a few. I didn't think the BLADE RUNNER VOs lived up to setting the mood. As I recall, no one was ever fully satisfied with any version of them, although I'd certainly be interested to read one of these drafts.

In fact, while various drafts of the screenplay had VOs that were intended to help set a noir mood. The ones that were ultimately used, however, were mandated by the studio to help move along parts of the story that they felt were too confusing.
