I'm glad you mentioned the distinction; I do remember seeing the movie on TV, then when I rented the movie years later, noticed the differences. if I'm not mistaken, the tv version had a big intro to the planets and stuff, and I think some kind of talking alien worm inside a glass container. (or was that from an acid trip? I can't remember)
