Are you talking about the theatrical release of Dune or the re-edited TV version of the same movie (which David Lynch took his name off of)?

What bugged me the most about this movie was how could he have translated to film some of the scenes verbatim (word for word, image for image) out of the book and then introduce some of the most bizarre Lynch like oddities in the next scene (particularly the cat/rat thing).

As for the novels, so did you even try to read book four, "God Emperor of Dune"? I only got through it because I was a one time Philosophy student and could read it as if (which it is) it was a philisophic diatribe. The last two, "Heretics of Dune" and "Chapterhouse Dune", were more readable with "Chapterhouse" being the closest to the combination of action, atmosphere and philosophy that "Dune" had going for it.
