: Could Jay be a virgin?

: Think about it. He constantly talks about the most vulgar aspects of sex, and is always assuring people that he's "all about the clam!" Is that why he's always obsessed with sex, because he's in his early twenties and still hasn't gotten laid? Is that why he's so damn hyper and antsy about trying to get some? Because he's desperate? I can back up my this beginnings of a thesis of sorts, with evidence from the books and flicks, so what's the deal? Any thoughts, or answers to the question?

Jay could be a virgin, or he could be gay and he's probably both (that "I swear I didn't cum in you Pete" gag from Dogma). To be honest, I don't think it matters. Jay's more a comedy stereotype than a real person, as is Silent Bob. They are, in all the movies, Comic Relief.

It's like a horrible experiment involving Butch and Sundance and Ivan Reitman. See, Ivan Reitman takes the sperm from Butch and Sundance, shakes it up and fertilises an egg. Bob and Jay are born, Bob getting the 2 coolest characteristics (ie, Butch's brains and Sundance's silence) and Jay gets the rest - not that I'm calling Jay Danny DeVito or anything. It's probably just as insulting to think of Bob as Arnholdt. But you get my drift. See also references to LaFours (obvious reference) and the "What you don't know about me I could just about cram into the Grand Canyon" line from Amy, which is one of Sundance's lines in their movie). Obviously they'd be useless without each other.

So, Jay and Silent Bob are stereotypes (apart from the diner scene in Amy). Jay will forever get into embarrasing scrapes, defend his manhood with good lines, and always be after "chicks". I'm not saying they're bad stereotypes, they just are. Apart from the diner scene in Amy. That really surprised me, what with Jay dissing the use of "snoochie boochies", Bob talking a blue streak (no Martin Lawrence reference intended). But that was all kinda forgotten with Dogma, cos they went back to the formula of chasing chicks and getting into scrapes ("Snoogans" on the hat, Bob only has 1 line). You can fill in your own blanks as well, cos it's a tried and trusted comedy form. For example:
Which guy says he has the bigger dick, Jay or Bob?
Which guy actually has the bigger dick?
Which of the two is most likely to get laid in any situation?
If there's 2 chicks, and one's a man in disguise, who gets the man?

See what I mean? It doesn't really matter. Jay will always be the hapless fucker who never gets to fuck, and Bob will always be wise and silent. Unless of course Kevin's taking Jay's character somewhere in a really subtle way. Doubt it though, he's funnier when we know exactly what he's gonna do.
