: One in three women ARE raped - that's a statistical fact.

: For example: I used to feel that I've only ever known two women who've been
: raped. How sad a thought is that? 'Only two'? Imagine saying "I've only
: known two people who were murdered." Or "I've only known two guys who've
: had their dicks brutally cut off against their will." Society's become so
: - not so much tolerant as - accepting of rape that someone like myself
: knows two people who've survived it and I've felt (at one point) that those
: are pretty low numbers. That's sad.

Damn right that's sad. I have a fiancee, a sister, a mother, 2 nieces, a lot of aunts and female cousins. If the statistic is 1 of three for rape, then just imagine how many women in your family may have been sexually assaulted. How many of them that have hidden it to avoid the guilt, even though what happened was not their fault? You think that's bad? Now think about all of your female co-workers. Now all of the girls you knew in college or high school. Can you imagine how many women you know that may have been raped? Even if the number was only 1 of ten it would still be a terrifying number! Like Kevin said, we guys don't really worry about it personally. I know that I don't even worry about anyone trying to mug me, because I live in a "safe" area. We, as men, need to realize that just because we don't have to personally worry about being raped, that rape
does exist as a lurking danger in our society. If one of three women is raped, then what number of guys have committed rape? How would you react if your mother, wife, daughter or sister was raped? Wouldn't you want to just find the piece of garbage and pound his skull into a bloody pulp? Now how would you feel if you found out one of your male buddies had raped someone? Wouldn't you feel like slugging him with a bat, too? Unfortunately, I'd wager that there are definitely guys out there who have told their friends stories about how a girl was playing "hard to get" or "acting like she didn't want it" and perhaps their friends just acted like "way to go buddy...you got some!" This is why it is important for us males to not brush aside issues like rape as not pertaining to us. We guys take for granted being able to go from home to work or shopping or going to work out without fear of being assaulted and having our dignity ripped away from us.

The devil doesn't need an advocate anymore;
: he just needs to be stopped.

Yes...they do need to be stopped...but how? For one, we need to make sure that it is not acceptable to allow rapists to get short sentences because rape is the kind of crime that can harm a person psychologically for years on end. Why is it that rape, which is such a violent, heinous crime is given such a light punishment considering the amount of terror and destruction it can bring about to another person? Why would someone have to serve more time for stealing cars or committing fraud? It's just insane how screwed up our system is. You want to stop them? Castrate them...especially those who are guilty beyond all doubt. Why should we show such mercy to those who are without it? Fuck the ACLU...thanks to them we have prisoners these days who eat better than most of our schoolchildren, have electricity and tv's and vcr access and libraries, a warm place to sleep. Thanks to them we also have inmates who are trying to sue our prisons because of stupid things like the guy who is suing because the cookie he got with his lunch was broken!

: Fuck, man - I have a daughter and a wife. And while I don't need to
: instruct my wife on the subject (as she's instructed me), I WILL be
: teaching my daughter that if any man lays a hand on her in a way that's not
: invited or overly aggressive, then she's to take the mother fucker's life.
: No questions asked, no exceptions made. It may not be a Christian
: approach, but what can I say? I'd rather have a daughter than a martyr.
: She'll never be a victim, if Jen or I can help it.

As for those who might say that castration is too harsh, or that it's not a Christian thing to do, I'm sorry but why is it only when we are talking about punishing our criminals that our nation wants to do things in a "Christian" manner? Why do people oppose the death penalty? They say it's not "Christian"...but the same people who are willing to fight so hard for the "rights" of criminals are adding to the harm of victims, some of whom feel like they will never be safe so long as their assailant lives.
Our society is full of hypocrisy. We won't put the Ten Commandments up in our schools because it might not be allowing all people to express their religious ideas since the Ten Commandments are Christian, yet when it comes to our money we still say "In God we trust."Our pledge of allegiance still says we are "..one nation under God...", and yet is seems only when we want a blessing do we remember God these days.
Well...if I have a daughter I will teach her to defend herself and teach her that she has a RIGHT to defend herself, and if she makes it clear that there is a line not to be crossed in a potential rape situation, then whosoever crosses that line will do so at their own risk. excelsior, ZenD
