"Clever".
As in, just clever.
As in, y'know... a lotta semi-amusing jokes that you've probably heard elsewhere but little substance. Sorta like the Family Guy.
Personally... I liked David's early Hulk run... and I dug some of his early Trek novels... and I don't really care for his other work. I think he made the Hulk and Aquaman mythos way the hell too confusing and self-referencial.
His work tends to smack of a smarmy sort of "aren't I clever" vibe that seems to fall apart as weak. I mean, in a Hulk novel, 'guess who?' 'lou ferigno? chris farley?' It gets old.
Eh. I think he's a writer who had some talent, fell in love with his cleverness and sort of ruined his work by then writing only from that part of his ability. And... a slightly harsher version of that is all Kevin said.
But I liked Q-Squared... as in my mid-teens I probably did watch a lil too much Trek.
oh-so-clever refs to the Little Mermaid
