I just want to take this time to relate to you the story of Lucifer as I know it. It may be a bit sketchy in places because I haven't read the Good Book in a while, and it could also be completely wrong, as I am throwing in little bits of dogma I've been fed over the years.

Here goes:

Lucifer was once an Angel in God's Army, sort of like Spawn, but one of the good guys. Angels in this army are called Archangels for some unexplained reason, probably because they fight in an un-Angelic manner. Anyways, Lucifer was in charge of a battalion or the equivalent thereof, if memory serves, and inspired such great loyalty in his attendant Angels that he decided he would be better at ruling Heaven than God. He thusly rounded up his own Army and waged war on the Throne. To paraphrase "Dogma", the Ethereal Plains were awash with combat, and distinct sides were drawn: Those loyal to Lucifer, and those loyal to God.

In the end, God won and punished Lucifer by banishing him to another plane where God no longer existed and giving him domain over it. All of his believers were sent with him and, eventually, all the evildoers in creation as well. Hell was a pretty decent place for a while, once you got around the abscence of God's presence, that is, which many of the denizens could not, and thusly lived in agonizing pain for all Eternity.

Enter Jesus' life on Earth and all accompanying dogma.

Although many good things came from this, one bit of dogma turns Hell into a terrible flaming pit of lost souls and eternal torment at the hands of Lucifer, who is now called Satan, also because of dogma.

I can picture him on the throne, plotting his revenge or some way to get back into Heaven, all the while wishing he could feel God's presence once more, but torn to shreds inside because his pride will not let him admit it.

I'm sure RugMuncher or Mick will correct any and all errors in this story.
