In the 10th aniversary issue of Entertainment Weekly there is a discussion where Kevin Smith states that if Clerks came out now and did 3 million theatrically no-one would give a shit because we've had The Blair Witch, a low budget film that made 140 million domestically. This leads to Victor Nunez stating that "Independent films have become like studio pictures. They have to have stars; they have to have celebraties."
Do you all think this is true? I for one would rather they not have celebraties, so often stereotyped as good guy, villian, straight man, or funny. Preconceived notions can be a real bitch when trying to suspend belief for two hours of cinematic fun.
What about Clerks TCS? Do any of you care that Paltrow or Baldwin are in it?
Will the fact that they are there make it better? Only for the fact of "pop" reference I'd guess.
Kevin just stated last night on the chat that people in Hollywood are fake, sarcastically I assume. On some level I think that he's right though.
How often do you feel a "BIG" celebrity gives a honest performance in a film? Why was all the hype at the Oscars over newcomers? Because they gave the best performances, that's why.
I welcome all thoughts, even stupid ones. I'd even kick Mickey Mouse in the balls for Kevins.
