Yes, the trouble with movies is that certain characters are forever identified with the actors who played them. That's why the stage adaptation of "Big" bombed. Big time.

This is not just a problem with plays adapted from movies, mind you. It's also a problem that plagues plays and musicals that were turned into megahit feature films; certain characters are forever identified with the actors who played them in the movie.

"Guys and Dolls, eh? What part are you auditioning for?"

"Sky Masterson."

"Huh?"

"Sky Masterson."

"Who?"

"A young, slim Marlon Brando."

"Oh, yeah! Good luck."

"Saying 'Good luck' is bad luck in theatre. Say 'Break a leg' instead."

"Oh. Break a leg. Say, didn't that theatre just do 'Macbeth?'"

"FUCK!"

What was I talking about? Oh yeah... um... a stage adaptation of Clerks is a bad idea.

And stuff.

Ahem.

What they need's a damn good whacking
