: I've recently been offered the chance to "shadow" (or train for promotion in my job-related field).

: The weed of crime bears bitter fruit.. THE SHADOW KNOWS...

: I'm confused here. You are offered the chance to make an unsolicited request on a web-board for a quasi-internship/apprenticeship with a major filmmaker? If you are being "sponsored" by some corporate entity/program, are there not more offical avenues for this program?

: I don't know.. Shadow Operations... The looming spectre of Disney... This is all sounding very Black Helicopter and Second Shooter on the Triple Overpass to me.

: Anyway, maybe there is some semantic distinction that you can discern, but it seems to me like you are asking, in an unsolicited fashion, for a job of sorts. And that does seem to violate what passes for "The Prime Directive" around these parts...

Yes and here is the "quasi-distinction" and semantics:
A job asks that the employer pay the employee from their funds while shadowing requires that the person be paid from the employer's fund while asking no payment in return from the trainer. That is the distinction I was seeking: Is View Askew owned, funded, sponsored, or produced by Disney or not? Obviously it is a frightening question. It seems much better to post stupid things like "Dude, I saw Dogma last night and well . . ." At least maybe then an answer will be posted.
Official avenues are long and difficult to navigate. By attempting to travel those routes, here is the path offered:
You want to shadow who? Why? Are they Disney owned? We'll have your records looked into by the professional departement and forward them onto View Askew if they're Disney owned. THen we'll find out if they're interested and GET BACK TO YOU.
One year later, the records, covered in dust, appear on Smith's desk. "Who the hell is this?" he asks. "I don't know," someone replies.
The records are filed under "W." Sure, I can travel the official route, or I can try to reach the source on the only place it is available before old age takes me and my heart gives out. I'm a blue collar boy with a white collar degree and the people around me cannot fathom trying to reach into something like this. It never hurts to try I figure.
