Mooby the Cow

Is Mooby the Cow created to show that people worship false idles? I don't know because in Jay and Silent Bob the graphic novel (which was composed of all three Jay and Silent Bob comics) it shows Silent Bob who is eyeing Mooby quite carefully and later on he buys a bunch of Mooby stuff. The Jay and Silent Bob graphic novel was made before Dogma right? So does that mean Mooby is just another Barney The Dinosaur? Either way Kevin was pretty smart to come up with him.
