Man, I don't even know if I can remember each first instance when I saw the flicks except for "Dogma." When I saw the trailer for "Dogma," I was totally psyched to see it. I was just thinking, "Man, this movie is going to be fun . . . and it's going to piss of someone." I knew that last part because I had been reading about it for almost a year. I saw it twice in an almost empty theatre. That's how much my hometown liked it.
When I saw a trailer for "Clerks," I was thinking what a piece of trash, b&w art flick wannabe it was trying to be. I was WAY wrong.
As for "Mallrats," my sister rented it on video (it never came out in the theatre where I lived) and I never saw a trailer for it. I loved that movie from start to finish. It was one of the few movies me and my sister agreed on being good.
And when it comes to "Chasing Amy," I knew who Kevin Smith was by then, so I was psyched to see it . . . on video. It never came to our local theatres either, I think.
I pretty much have a movie credo (outside of my indie movie world) regarding flicks. If Steve Zahn is in it--I'm there. If Kevin Smith writes it--count me in. If Sam Raimi sneezes on it--I'll wipe it off. If David Fincher or Doug Liman directs it--my eyes are glued. If Richard Linklater enables it--I enjoy it. AND if Penelope Cruz is within ten feet of it--I gush.
I'm sure that credo would go on, but that's good enough for now. Thanks for making me jog my mind on that, oh Ralphy!
