: First off:
: What format did Brian and Vincent shoot their first flicks in? 16mm or 35mm? Dv derivitive?

All of the View Askew "small" films were shot in 16mm- A BETTER PLACE, BIG HELIUM DOG, and VULGAR in color, DRAWING FLIES in black-and-white.

: Secondly:
: How much did those first productions cost?

A BETTER PLACE cost around $50,000 total, while the other three ended up in the $75,000-$90,000 range I believe.

: How important is it to have a connected connection?

It's very important if you have no talent at all- if you do have talent, you have as much of a chance as anyone else with talent. In fact, I'd venture to say that "connections" only help as much as opening the door a bit- you still have to push the door the rest of the way open and go through the door and prove you've got what it takes.
