Sam Hamm's Watchmen script isn't bad, but of course it's a LOT simpler than the original series. For example, the Minutemen are not included, and the pirate comic isn't there either.

It actually starts with a nice opening sequence, a completely new scene, in which a bungled job by the superheroes results in terrorists blowing up the Statue of Liberty. This was the event that brought about the Keene Act, banning all superheroes.

And Mr. Hamm also radically changed the ending -- no giant alien; the plot to save the world was totally different. But it worked. I would've like to have seen the movie. Terry Gilliam has said (fairly recently) that he thinks it would work better as a mini-series than a movie. Someday, maybe...
