It is easy Scott,
by making people feel bad (also known as Stepping on them) you lower their self esteem. The kids in Columbine were Outcasts and had low self-esteem. If you get what I am saying you don't have to continue reading because I will go into what I mean more.

The kids esteem were so-low that they felt no other alternative than to lash out at a word that was harsh to them. Verbal Violence leads to Physical violence and we all know that violence is not the answer.
