I had a buddy e-mail me recently asking if I wanted to make an RPG based on the Clerks Animated Series. After doing some pre-lim art, I started to wonder about the whole legality of it. First, we'd be using an RPG engine that isn't entirely legal to be used in the first place, meaning that we wouldn't be able to sell it (not really the point, anyway... so not a problem). Second, we'd be using the characters from the Cartoon. Since K. Smith owns the characters (he does, right?), will he get all pissed and sue-happy if we post a non-profit game using his stuff? We both know the View Askew legends in and out (well, in anyway... I'm still working on out), so it's not like we'll be trodding on the ground that some die-hard fans worship on.
The honest truth is that the game is going to be made, I just want to know if we should let people know about it here without fear, or just bury it on the internet, and only let a few people know about it. Any feedback would help.
