If he's come to one realization or another, either acceptance or moving on, how entertaining a character is he then? He's just another person who's relatively well adjusted and frankly, they're not terribly interesting.
He's a fun character full of comic potential BECAUSE he's screwed up, BECAUSE he's still in that weird in-between world that we've all been in of hating where we are but assuming that this is where we're supposed to be for the moment. And we still bitch.
For Dante, his job is that.
For me, it's my last semester of college.
You're talking about taking away a fictional character's most interesting traits for the sake of growth... when the majority of the people who would SEE the character in whatever comes next (the character's in J&SBSB or the cartoon movie or whatever) haven't SEEN his original personality which made him interesting and funny.
I have thought about it and have come to the realization that you've thought way too hard about it. Dante is a CHARACTER, not a person.
Would WE like to see him grow? Sure, I guess so. It'd be interesting for us who've seen Clerks the movie a few times, the comics and cartoons a few times and feel like we've seen the character enough to expect growth... but a whole lotta people only saw him once on a video they rented... or not at all.
Okay?
Thanks.
