Bartleby as a tragic hero? Damn that is a good question. At first I would say yes, but as the plot unfolds he changes. I don't think he becomes evil, just frustrated. His feelings towards mankind goes from empathy to jealousy.

Damn, the more I think about it yes, he is a tragic hero. All he wants is to go home. At first not knowing the consequences involved. Later as he learns what will happen and that he is to be killed for his effort his jealousy towards mankind changes him, hence his tragic flaw.

Okay my brain hurts now.
