I just thought i'd give this a chance by posting a message for Kevin Smith.
I hope he might read this, and responde, but if not, others are welcome. I am an aspiring young film maker myself. I just graduated high school. so far i've already wrote and directed, and starred as a small part in my first short movie. It was a mystery entitled HELP WANTED. It turned out really great, considering small cast, and everyday items were used to make it. Only things that were expensive were the cameras we used, and the computers that we have the editing equipment on. Unfortunately, we can't release it, cause i'm not a song writer, and we had to use copyrighted music to give it some sort of completion for ourselves at least.
Anyway, with HELP WANTED behind us, we wanted to make another movie, a full length one, and we've got plenty of ideas, but before we're finished at some point, i want to actually find a way to distribute it at least in small proportions. We have just started working with a new guy who can write music pretty good, and he said he wants to do it for my next movie. We've got a dozen ideas, and a few scripts, but we're not sure which one to tackle, we got sci-fi ones, comedy, horror, a bunch of types to choice from. They want me to direct it again more than anything since so many people were impressed with the way i handle the short movie. But, when i do finish making the movie, or before it's finished. how can i get some peoples attention in high places? we were disappointed we couldn't do more with HELP WANTED, didn't get a dime for it, and spent so much time on it. we do enjoy it though, so that's been a plus. People say i should try film festivals, that does sound like a good idea at times, but well, i wish i knew which ones to go for. I saw the one festival that ben affleck has, where that summer movie won, unfortunately, i heard that he wouldn't be the one directed it and so on...just got money for the script. I know i really want to direct my movie. I've written all the scripts, and i feel i am the only one who can see it as clearly as i do. Like, what companies might be interested in publishing and distributing movies? Would view askew do it, if it was up to their standards? i don't know. But i can tell you this, i know that i am a really serious film maker, and know i want to this stuff more than anything. I admire Kevin Smith, and the many other directors for making it as far as they have, and i only dream i can do the same. Even if i was only known in a small cult area, that is a dream come true.
If Kevin Smith, if you do read this, and wish to reply...please, tell me what you honestly think i should go for. you would know more than anyone. And if any other view askew fans looking at this have an idea. please, feel free to leave a post reply. Thanks for reading. I hope to see some replies. take care
