My only problem was that I didn't GET IT when I saw AI. I'm a pretty clever girl, with common sense, a good amount of savvy when it comes to uncovering deep structure, and street smarts to boot! But i really didn't get it that they were highly advanced mecha of human design. Some other viewers i talked to didn't get it either. I would've liked a line or two of dialogue giving me that info, but then i didn't make the movie and as someone else said, maybe the ambiguity is a stylistic feature.
and kubrik or speilberg just didn't ask me.
I think i'm spoiled by the many other movies I've seen that spoonfeed me establishing information.
i feel shame.
