First of all, the machine wasn't broken. You put the money in, open it and there's a stack of papers sitting there. You're supposed to take just one - the one you pay for. It's probably illegal because you're paying for one and taking a bundle. When the box closes you hear the coin drop (which is likely a post-production sound effect) and they could have left a coin in the coin return to pay off that joke with the sound. It doesn't mean the machine was broken literally. And I would think (I don't know for certain) that after they got that shot, they put the papers back in. (The papers he dropped in the bin at the store could have been different papers).

If your store is out of papers, i'd suggest telling your paper courier to increase your draw so you don't run out. That's what we do at my store.
