: To me, it seems as though the reason he goes nuts on the "other " David is due to finding that he is indeed NOT a beautiful and unique snowflake. Taking this the next logical step: when there was evidence of a compitition between Martin and David ( I.E. the Spinach)why would he NOT then react the same to Martin?
There's a big difference between sibling rivalry, and finding out you're not as unique as you were lead to believe.
:
: I really will not go into the unbelieveable idea that by eating, an android will damage himself. Why then is it possible for him to be underwater and speak??
: UGH.
It answers this "flaw" in the beginning. There was a food shortage. Why would an android need to eat?
: As I said earlier: Jude Law was not needed. Taking the PHANTOM EDIT way of looking at things. Imagine the movie without him. DAVID alone in the woods. He gets from point A to point B much the same way then.
If David had never met Jude Law, he wouldn't have found Dr. Know. Also, Joe provided someone for David to relate to. Joe was not unique, but he was an android. Plus, two and a half hours of just David wandering around would get boring, and Jude Law was great. I'm assuming you're not a Gene Kelly fan?
: Sorry but I cannot believe that the FLESH FAIR would be conducted in such a manner. And given Brenden Gleeson's speech about "Artificiality" and how the newest affront to God is the replication of a human boy............well I feel DAVID begging for his life would indeed incite the ( already rabid by all accounts) crowd to further violence.
There's a difference between hearing about new advances, and seeing it. Someone could tell a furious audience that there are new advances, but who's to say the way that they'd react when confronted with it. Plus, it's hundreds (or several) years in the future. All kinds of shit has gone down. It's simple suspension of disbelief, cut a brutha some slack.
: The RULES OF ROBOTICS say that first 'Do no harm to Humans" Why drag Martin into the pool? Why does he not understand the need to breath? the second rule is " Do no harm to thy self". Why the eating episode?
Well, since when does a movie have to follow the rules of a sci-fi book? Did The Faculty follow the rules of alien invasions set by Invasion of the Body Snatchers?
But, to humor you, let's break it down...
1) David panicked. Yet another emotional step above his programming. He wanted Martin to protect him and fell into the pool. Since he was not thinking in a normal frame of mind, he didn't think that he was harming a human.
2) It was sibling rivalry, another emotional step above his programming. He didn't realize he was hurting himself, or Martin with the pool episode.
: Again I see the FLESH FAIR as flouting the rules as well.
And again, these aren't the rules of the movie A.I., they are rules in a sci-fi book.
