The problem I do have is thus: Just because his name is Spielberg does NOT mean it will be a classic. Or even good.
But they do seem to follow don't they? I wouldn't say that I think we'll be seeing A.I. on AMC in 50 years, but it was a damn good movie.
: I ask this as well. To what end did Jude Law serve? What connection could there POSSIBLY be between the 2 charachters?? A sex bot and a "mecha" programmed to think he was a real boy and thus feel an undying love to his "mother". :
I'd say they were a perfect match of characters. They were both searching for love. Different types of love, but both were torn without it. Though both were "love focused" neither would ever be able to comprehend the other's understanding of it.
:What was the meaning of the FLESH FAIR? Seems a bit too primitive for a society intelligent enough to have the MECHAs in the first place. :
I believe they stated in the movie "History repeats itself." Like I believe Vincent mentions below, humans thrive on putting themselves above others. Look at friggin Jerry Springer. The reason why people watch that show is to feel better about themeselves by watching those stupider or poorer or in a worse situation than themselves. Same with the Orga and Mecha in AI. The Orga were intimidated by the possiblities that lie in Mecha possiblity, so in turn, they destroyed them to make themselves feel superior. Seen Gladiator lately? Point was to show even though the human race had evolved technologically, they had not evolved past the days of old.
:And if , in fact, it had it's place in such a society then the idea of the crowd turning on Brendan Gleeson( throwing fruit at him of all things)simply does not hold up.:
Thing was, I was crying at this point. I was holding my hand to my face trying to hide the streaming tears from my father. I haven't cried in a movie in years. I believe this is why the audience turned so quickly. No one, no matter what time, if they are of sane mind, wants to see a child beg for their life. To the audience, and myself, at that moment, David was a real child.
: Are we supposed to believe an android has no self preservation skills as well?? To ignore Asimov's Rules of Robotics, after virtually every film of the last 40 years dealing with the idea of artificial lifeforms followed them closely, is inexcuseable.
If I understand this statement, you are saying that the robots had no concern for their own "lives." This was shown over and over again in the film, David, the robots in the Flesh Fair, Joe, even the bear said "David, I will break." Nuf said.
: I felt ( and saw) nothing real in David's relationship to his "mother" and as a result felt nothing when she left him in the woods. :
I did think the transition of her feelings from the "bathroom incident" to her saying the words to make him love her was weak. I thought they should have focused more on her growing to love him.
: When HOLDEN breaks up with Alyssa I dare you to not feel SOMETHING, if only remembering a past breakup in your own life. :
I have to say that I did, however, feel for David in the scene when his mother leaves him. It was obvious how the two cared for EACHOTHER in that scene. It was obvious that the mother was making a choice to protect her blood family and in turn had to sacrifice her Mecha son.
: When confronted with the FACE OF GOD, Bartleby breaking down in tears begging forgiveness KNOWING none would be forthcoming.:
I think even Kevin has said that it is not known whether Bartleby goes to heaven. As an optimist, I wouldn't rule out the possiblity . . . :)
: When DAVID goes apeshit and smashes the "other" David........you ask why?? Where did THIS emotion come from? If he had the capeability all along why not direct it @ Martin??
I agree with vincent on his point. David thought he was special. One of a kind. He didn't hate Martin. He never even showed bad will towards him. Why would he attack him? However, David saw the immediate threat of his "others". He was no longer special. One of these other Davids would surely steal his mother. And as Vincent said, he had grown beyond the expectations of his creator.
I know all this is off topic, but its damn fun!
:)
