It's not often I feel the need to follow up on something........but this is something I NEED to do.

A.I. to me was no question a visual masterpiece. TRON in the year 2k1 as it was said.
That being said and all praises due to H.J. Osmet. This kid is going to be wowing them for years to come. The problem I do have is thus: Just because his name is Spielberg does NOT mean it will be a classic. Or even good.

I say again to those that saw the movie. Just imagine the same movie in the hands of David Lynch, David Fincher, Tarsem, or even Stevorino himself circa. 1980.

I ask this as well. To what end did Jude Law serve? What connection could there POSSIBLY be between the 2 charachters?? A sex bot and a "mecha" programmed to think he was a real boy and thus feel an undying love to his "mother". Not exactly Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton. What was the meaning of the FLESH FAIR? Seems a bit too primitive for a society intelligent enough to have the MECHAs in the first place. And if , in fact, it had it's place in such a society then the idea of the crowd turning on Brendan Gleeson( throwing fruit at him of all things)simply does not hold up.
Not nitpicking. Just trying to balance the "the story was well thought out and deep" argument.
Are we supposed to believe an android has no self preservation skills as well?? To ignore Asimov's Rules of Robotics, after virtually every film of the last 40 years dealing with the idea of artificial lifeforms followed them closely, is inexcuseable.

Compare if you will, DOGMA. The movie never once lost it's way and the people interacting with one another had every reason to do so. Relationships were allowed to start and evolve through the course of the film. Even moreso in CHASING AMY.
I felt ( and saw) nothing real in David's relationship to his "mother" and as a result felt nothing when she left him in the woods.
When HOLDEN breaks up with Alyssa I dare you to not feel SOMETHING, if only remembering a past breakup in your own life.
When confronted with the FACE OF GOD, Bartleby breaking down in tears begging forgiveness KNOWING none would be forthcoming.
When DAVID goes apeshit and smashes the "other" David........you ask why?? Where did THIS emotion come from? If he had the capeability all along why not direct it @ Martin??
Sorry to be so long winded but I felt the need to go into it a little more. Pretty much everyone on the Board is smart and hip so I feel I'm talking to friends most of the time ...........so sorry for the familier tone

Rob
