Geez, okay there are two schools of thought. (1) Death Star scene is a metaphor for conception with the obvious spermazoa and egg imagery. Except I'm hoping my eventual mate (you reading this honey?) doesn't have little blasters on her egg picking off my 'boys'. One lucky sperm hits the sweet spot, there's a big bang, voila. (Also, X & Y's are the types of chromosomes. Since an 'X' got the job done, the Death Star rebirth will be female.)
Second school (2), the phallic star fighters are attempting to insert a torpedo (hmmm??) into a "thermal exhaust port". A tailpipe. Tail. Pipe. Which causes a sort of orgasmic event. Plus all through the battle you have homoerotic interchanges between the all-male pilots. "Watch your back Luke!" "I'm on him." "Almost there!" Plus the Death Star just looks like a tubby bitch.
