Well....
Okay. I realize I'll be fried for saying some of these things, but I need to vent.
I didn't think J&SBSB was THAT great. Damn good, but not the "Best".
Before my hide is totally handed to me, let me say I REALLY had a blast(In the end, isn't this what counts??), I will see it again and again, and HOPE some of my 'wishes' are solved via DVD.
What I liked is WAY too long to place here...but I'd like to say that what I found most shocking....
Jason Mewes CAN ACT!
He was as good as any of the American Pie cast, or Road Trip crew. Perhaps the herb is taking a reverse effect on him? Damn, he has presence. People have stated that Shannon Elizabth would never go for Jay...why not? Nobody said that about Biggs in Pie(s).
Jason will HOPEFULLY either find his own course in films, or maybe Kevin will let him actually branch out in small, tiny parts....
Also, it MAY be the DP..who was great..but I think Kevin just blew the screen off..and he handled all of the pacing, actors and sequences amazing. "Static Director" my ass.
Also, Kevin should reward Jaime(sp?) well...if Kevin is as hefty as he claims..how come he looks to have lost a lot of weight during the film? I'd also like Kevin to 'act' more....screw the silent shit.
Okay, so this isn't negative...I'll get to specifics, which are basically fan boy whines.
First, Kevin protected this SO much that I expected MORE from the jokes...Daredevil..I figured a bigger scene..I BARELY saw him....WTF???
Also, they say this is "For the fans"...of what? American Pie, Scream, etc?
My HUGE ass complaint is the lack of Brodie, and the SEVERE lack of Dante and Randal. I may have missed something, but I thought I was promised(Sorta) Clerks 2...which became Clerks/Mallrats 2..which would have been fine..which became Clerks/Mallrats/Chasing Amy 2....YEAH!
Kevin always said Jay and SB couldn't carry a movie..and wouldn't.
Well, he was wrong..they can and DID....and I am happy for him..but in the end, more Clerks in Color and Brodie got lost.
Also, why the Suzanne bit ripped directly from the Chasing Dogma series? I just checked..some lines almost word for fucking word! If Kevin was going THAT route, the Doogie Nights scenes would have been great.
When I got the CD, I noticed no great Lee quotes...and now I know why. Before I get too angry, I realize that Jason had a rough schedule, and just getting him for those scenes was cool enough.
But....Quick Stop?? Dante? Randal?
PLEASE tell me Kevin shot a nice 20 minute "TV" show type of Mini-Clerks 2 for the DVD. PLEASE. I want to see these guys have one last long discussion or three. This was lame, as I thought they both looked great, age understanding, and in color..it seemed..so RIGHT. Please tell me a bunch was cut for pacing.
Couldn't we have had a more menacing Vincent in there? The 'New' Quick Stop clerk(Trainee) with a mean streak? UGGH!
Christ, have Dante and Randal quit and have Vincent and Bryan or even..MING replace them.
Look, no offense to Brian and Jeff, but they HAVE (HAD?) the time to shoot more..and I do understand Kevin wanting to leave the "Askewniverse" behind..but please let us have REAL closure..not 8 minutes of Lee, 10 of Affleck, and 9 or so of Dante and Randal, and some mumblings coming from a frigging movie premier.
This was WAY too much about the cameos, and at times, felt like 'Rat Race'...too many celebs....which would have been cool as a lead in to the end..but AS the end?
I had enough of Jay and Silent Bob to 'Lay Them To Rest'....it seems Jay will eventually get hitched...but Bob's fate??? Come on, Kev...throw us a bone. Would have been nice to see Bob as Prince's new "Hetero-Lifemate" or a new member of Run DMC. Fuck, let him GET MARRIED to that babe in the leather...I mean, that character played by that Jennifer actress. The hot brunette. I wonder if Kevin boned her?
(BTW-Nice job ..has she acted before? Mrs. Smith really held her own against the rest...even better IMHO than one of the 'name' girls.)
So, I accept Jay and Silent Bob leaving the building...and leave in style they did....
BUT...

Brodie? Nope. Not one great dialogue sequence. All those comics and NOTHING to say?
Banky? I'm confused...either he DID end up being gay...which would have been a nice developtment, but with Hooper? I just don't see them as a couple, even IF Banky is gay. Best friends, yes....but partners? I'd have to see more....(Not THAT much more, mind you...)
The truth is, that quip that many have assumed meant Banky was indeed, gay...sounds an awful lot like jokes my friends and I say to each other.

Banky and Hooper have been friends for YEARS...that type of joke would seem natural. ESPECIALLY if Banky was straight, but came to terms with his 'Issues' and was at peace.
If anyone actually reads this..is Banky gay? I'm hoping so, because I think it gives 'Amy' more depth. I'm not gay (That I am aware of....), but would have appreciated a slightly more real handling of this.
All in all, I say "negative" just to vent my rage over my own false expectations....and hopes for the DVD.
I KNOW I will enjoy it the next time around, because my expectations will be lowered, and this will free me to just relax.
All in all, I hope we DO at least get more of Dante and Randal via cartoon...PLEASE!!!, but am happy to see this inbred continuity sent off...
Give me the fatherhood movie and Fletch, please.
Keep the new DP, if possible.
Let the ol' wifey act more. PLEASE keep Mewes around...maybe seeing him in a short wig playing 'straight' would be fun.
