Vincent, bro, relax. He's not attacking you, he's just another moron writer on a DVD website that nobody goes to (I know I don't).
As far as visuals, I really enjoyed it. The tree motif was great, and the setups were well done. There seemed to be a lot of "Enter scene, sit down, talk" going on, but it's a talky script. This is accepted. Some exceptional framing in the death in the forest scene, and especially in the finale (the dad shot, for example).
The acting at times was not that good. The leads, sure. Some awkwardness showed through on them VERY slightly, but the supporting characters seemed to have the most trouble. The father scene in the truck just makes me cringe. Sorry, it does. The aunt seems VERY uncomfortable most of the time, as well as Jason Lee's wife (that is her playing the female supporting character, isn't it?).
These are my observations as a film-obsessed fan boy. A fantastic opening, considering the budget, time, resources, and performers. On an older board you can read my 3 star (out of 4) review.
