my parents have a scanner in their house that picks up area emergency transmissions. i'm sitting here, waiting till later to finally move to rochester and listening to the scanner & watching the news. i live in cattaraugus county, which is in the southern tier of western new york. the latest talks going on over the scanner are efforts to organize groups of emergency teams to send from our area to manhattan. this is more than eight hours away. how considerable the damage must be to activate this sort of relief effort.
