: The super-heroes fought in World War II. They weren't as powerful back then. DC Comics addressed the issue in their comics by saying Hitler had a magic spear that would give him power to control any super-powered being who came within a certain range of him, so they had to keep their distance. And they offset any progress the heroes would make by giving them Captain Nazi and other villains to fight. Marvel/Timely/Atlas's super-heroes (Captain America, Sub-Mariner, Human Torch, Blazing Skull) simply weren't powerful enough to end a war singlehandedly, although in the comics it was the Torch who killed Hitler. Vietnam is trickier, though. DC and Marvel almost completely ignored it. (It did figure into Iron Man's origin though. Personally I don't the heroes would have been able to agree on the rightness of that war, anyway.)
