Batman wouldn't be able to fight supervillians if he wasnt' rich. Maybe he could handle common riff raff, pick pocketers, coke dealers, that kind of thing. But without all the neat gadgets he'd be just like anybody else. Yes, there is detective work involved with solving crime, but without the tools to do that detective work, or do something about what you've found out, you really can't do jack shit.
