Ever see "Fistfull of Dollars", or "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"?
There's something about those silent, bad-ass bounty hunters. They've always got one more trick up their sleeve.
There's also a potential parallel to Lucas' earlier "American Grafitti"--the Harrison Ford character, Bob Falfa, who doesn't say a lot and drives a bad-ass car...(but essentially gets his comeuppance.)
Actually, I may be the wrong person to offer my two cents, since in 1980, Boba Fett was, to me, just another masked bad-guy action figure. Had a pretty cool ship, which I always insisted flew parallel to the ground, and not perpendicular. (Which meant that I was putting Fett in the cockpit upside down all those years.) But the *real* reason you got Slave I was for the Han-in-Carbonite accessory. (Which, unlike the film) you needed guards placed at *both* ends to support...The illusion is once again shattered.)
