So we pursue that ideal, but we pursue it with the wrong people, subconsciously knowing that it won't work out in the end. It's sort of odd but I think people almost need to have their heart broken. "The Great Outdoors" aside, a comedy movie has got to sell me on a decent concept before I'll check it out. That said, I think "Shallow Hal" speaks a good deal about the point you've made. If you haven't seen it, or have been hesitant, I would recommend it. Comparing/contrasting with "Chasing Amy" would be an interesting excercise...
