Saying, "You can't make money" then your probobly second guessing yourself even. You don't need to defiantly challenge their assumption. Just do your shit and be happy. Film can be a risky bussiness, in the rare acception (Kevin with Clerks) the guy had a great story and just made the film. Personally, I don't think I write that well yet, so I am in Film School to learn ALL the shit I need to know. So now if I meet a friend with a great script, I can help him make a movie that makes some cash, or, eventually get enough experience through internships and such to make my own flick.
What it all boils down to is having confidence in yourself. Fuck anyone who says otherwise (unless your script is really, really bad :)
