Sometimes you just have to 'bite your tongue' or just be patient with things. After you get your degree & a good job, you can move to whereever you want & do whatever you want.
As for friends, go places you'd normally go yourself & try to meet new people (strip joints don't count) - but don't necessarily go there to meet new friends.
Just do things you enjoy doing, even if it is at home by yourself. If you can't be happy with yourself first, being happy with others will be a lot harder.
