: Just a quick question for anyone who may know, staff or not.
: If anyone has paid attention to any of my previous posts (yes, all two or so of them), I am writing a movie. And without having to pay for an expensive lawyer, I thought I'd throw out a question to the masses.
: Can I legally mention a movie title (such as Clerks or Titanic - those are the exact ones I am thinking of at the moment) or a song (Jump) in the movie without getting legal clearance, or do I need some form of waiver?
: Pardon the typos,

Let me clarify. You can refer to those movies. Doing so is neither a copyright or trademark violation.
Although someone in here said you cannot copyright a movie title, you can trademark the name to apply to specific usage of that movie's image, promotion, and sales. It's technically not a copyright because title's are basically words and you can't copyright words (the entire movie reel is of course copyright protected).
But to answer your question, YES, you can refer to those movies in text/script.
