I'm not sure how the plot doesn't fit together. The reason Ghost Dog murdered the whole gang was because they were going to kill Ghost Dog, his master Louie, or both. By clearing out the bosses and others above Louie, Louie is now the boss. Since Louie is in charge, GhostDog knows Louie needs to avenge all of these deaths, and so he gives his life for his master. All of this obviously goes along with the way of the samurai. What you may or may not have missed was the discrepancies in the flashback sequences (ala rashomon). When forest flashes back to when louie helped him, he sees louie defending him. When Louie flashes back, Louie is only defending himself. He only shoots the thug because the thug pulls a gun on Louie. So in light of that, the question that remains to me is whether or not Ghost Dog was foolish in following this man who he mistook for his savior? That is up to your own oppinion.
I love this film, and found it really rich and interesting. It is also incredibly slow, so it is understandable that people would say it is really not that entertaining. To each his own.

: : I was entertained by this movie straight through. Well written, acted, and shot.
: I could see that there was a lot of thought put into parts of the movie, and I kinda got some of the quotes from the samuri handbook thing, but the fact that the plot just didn't fit together at all didn't work for me. I'm still confused as to why the strange big-rapper stereotype turned samurai and just sort of went postal-ish and killed all the mafia in the town even though he was indebted to one of them... and the whole thing with the wierd icecream guy who only spoke French was kinda amusing, but really just odd. I don't know, but I think movies are great when they are well written and thought out, but they need to also be entertaining and not just confusing as all hell. I mean look at the dialogue in Kevin's flicks, or something like Pulp Fiction (incredible film) the speach was excellent, but the rest of the film flows and goes somewhere you can see, I don't know now I'm just ranting...
