Movies are awesome buy why do they cost so much

I have been talking with friends of mine at my job about, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. They all agree that the movies are awesome but, Why do they cost so much to buy. When your living paycheck to paycheck how do you expect anyone to buy the movie if they range from: $25.00 up to $30.00.
