Someone always bigger, someone always better...it goes on and on. To be honest the only way to deal with it is to ignore it. You can't worry about the small things like the fact that this person's idea of self worth is the fact that he/she knows others. Wow, I network well...big deal! Worry less on them and more on your own work, you'll see in no time who is more important.
And if that doesnt work, well then, I will leave that advice up to someone else...
