: ok so last night a bunch of my friends and i got together to watch "dead alive" (we rented it from hollywood video). some of us saw it and some didnt. well this video was cut to shit!! for whatever reason they edited it to the point it made absolutly no sense (not that it really did before but at least u knew what was going on).
I don't see what problems exist in the film making sense in its original cut at all. It's a rather cheerful romantic comedy with zombies. I think it's actually pretty solid storytelling as well being hysterically funny.
: they must have literally cut a 1/2 hr to 45 min out.
If it's the R-Rated cut then it's about 20 minutes shorter than the International BRAIN DEAD cut and a little over 10 minutes shorter than the US Unrated version.
: it didnt say that it was edited on the box...
Does it have an MPAA "R" symbol on it? If so, they aren't really hiding it.
: and we were tryin to figure why they would even bother editing such a gorefest of a horror movie (not to mention hysterical). someone had suggested that they might have because hollywood and blockbuster are 'family' stores but why would someone even rent dead alive for their 'family' to watch??
In both cases they will stock unrated films, but will stock an "R" rated version instead if one is available. In this case, there is one.
: i had caught half of it a while back on ifc and it wasnt edited. question: anyone know why they edited it to shit and where u can get the unedited version??
Most places outside a Blockbuster or Hollywood should stock the unrated cut. Now, if you want the full movie as originally cut by Peter Jackson, that's a much larger challenge in the US. It's worthwhile but not essencial, as most of the cut material is cute, but not plot important and is generally culturally specific stuff.
: bonus question: was it an english film or australian. someone had brought up a good point that australians are big into rockabilly and most of the characters were dressed like that.
New Zealand.
It is on the same continent, but I'm sure I'd offend some Kiwi by saying Australia was the correct answer. I had a friend from New Zealand who had a t-shirt that said, "I only support two teams. New Zealand and whoever's playing Australia."
