I haven't worked in animation for about 5 years, but i believe that the "style" that you are seeing, is not really a style, and caused by the software that is used these days to produce animation. Before I left the studio a program called Jester was brand new, and looks like it, or something like it, was used. Basically they are no longer using cel animation, but instead doing the drawings digitally, and outputting them to a DDR. This saves a lot of time cause now the animator does not need to have the cels drawn, colored, and then shot (traditional animation).
