I saw the Cannes cut of the film at Vulgarthon, and I really don't think it dragged at all. I can see why other stuff got cut, but in my opinion, Lee's speech wasn't too much and certainly worked in the film.
There's stuff in other films, like Amy that I thought belonged in the flick but when I was bored and home sick back in high school, I put all the scenes back into the movie to see what they looked like. And for the most part, I saw why they were cut.
I didn't see that with the Lee speech in Dogma, I'd take it over the slowmo of Mewes with the uzi any day.
