They hire the director, and they hire the cast. The director isn't in charge of that stuff, the producer is, and if the producer wants coinage, he'll go to the sex appeal of the day (I'm not taking sides on the lopez issue, just saying that they'll go for sex appeal somewhere in the equation).

Of course, the next step here is that Danny Devito produced Out of Sight, and as a producer he has a fucking STRONG background in being a good producer. So if someone wants to argue THAT point, they have a lot of ammo.

I'm just saying I think the Producer has a bigger say than the director.
