They chose to make a film about Andy Kaufman because he was a genius. Unfortunately the director and writers never really spoke to Andy's family, and chose to listen to his so-called former "best friend" who boosted his own ego by taking credit for anything funny Andy ever did, making Kaufman into a mean jackass. The outstanding Kaufman biography "Lost in the Funhouse" by Bill Zehme is a much more accurate portrayal.
