Actually, the first thing I thought when I saw the original ending was, "oh. A convenience store clerk got shot and robbed. Yeah, haven't heard about that about a billion times." I think Dante getting killed or at least robbed would be about the most obvious and expected thing a filmmaker could have done with a film about and named "Clerks". And by the by, "Easy Rider" is a movie so bad it's deserving of an MST3K-thrashing. Where the notion that that mess of a film is a "classic" got started I'll never know...
